I am Adeniyi Balogun. I studied accounting in Lagos state polytechnic further moved on to the University of Calabar where I had the opportunity to take on courses in management. I work with Multi-choice Nigeria, with fantastic product such as DSTV. I am the National President of JCI Nigeria and it’s an astounding success for me.
I started working at a very early age. Am always in the midst of people, helping up with friends not minding who is watching. All this ultimately built me to that upgrading person, whenever there is interactions with friends, their remarks will be “he is so simple; he is such a wonderful person”. That is also a key element to me. My friends feel am too particular about things in trying to describe myself. I love to see everywhere neat and tidy, they think I go too far getting that to happen, I like a very clean environment, the reverse for me that could get me in my right self. The only thing that drives me is the desire to win every moment. As an individual you just want the end result, funny though like the way I was trained, I just try as much as possible to work diligently.
I have been an active member of JCI organization for more than a decade, it is about commitment and consistency, you need to be focus and determined. Definitely the pressure would always come, it is always there, it is now left on how you adapt and manage it. The more stress that comes from work, the more money you make, let the stress keep coming and let the money keep coming. Success for me is not entirely, success would come in every moment of life, for me to be around for this interview it’s a success.
Dealing with criticism brings out the best in you, it is important you take it as a positive vibe, a lot of people would come up with their own loads of different opinion, you need to take those feedback and put it together for good result as a good leader. For me, the word leader describe that man or that woman at the top, when you end up been there, you need to listen and follow the right step. I think I am more of a follower than a leader; it is just that I am fortunate to be heading the affairs. I don’t want to go into textbooks describing my management style, but working with my team, it is important for you to allow respect to come, celebrate them, stay focus and drive the team positively.
I have a team across the country, I have a team for my personal work side and JCI side as well, as a member of JCI which is a global network, I would say yes, I have a team, I had the opportunity to join JCI Academy Japan where I interacted with other young individuals across the world in fact that has already created a team where we exchange ideas and opinions. What keeps the team going is making sure the money is coming in, as a salesperson when you work commission comes in, it is important we keep that passion going and keep identifying that opportunities, making a better society gives us joy serving humanity.
If any individual in my team refuses to delivered an assignment this would be my take on, I don’t like convincing people to go against their wish, but if that particular project would be beneficial to the group, the first thing for me is that we must try to share and accept a general goal because at the end, it’s a plus to us. I would try to convince you that you are falling short of our contribution to the success of whatever we have set up to do.
The key thing is that being able to share the expectation within them, clearly from the start of whatever we have to be executed, getting clear what is your contribution to the team and how you add up to the success. Everybody in the team matters and is important it’s just for you to keep telling the person what he or she should bring on board and this is the part of you that makes a whole for as a team. I would say, when I got my 1st job back then everything I had learn over time were from JCI training like how to dress, how do you speak and encourage people when you go out for meetings. So that has helped me personally and professionally.
JCI stands for Junior Chamber International, we are group of young people, and it is a worldwide organization so as to create opportunity for young people basically for us to create change in our society as much as possible we achievably set up the economy through our effort to create a sustainable impact. For every five year we come out with a strategic plan and we have a plan that takes us for the next year, but for this plan we focus on five (5) keys areas, the areas are impact how we get into our community creating a better community. We also have a strategy that goes around, investing, to motivate, connect, and collaborate. We are 60years in Nigeria in 2017, we have activity across the countries, 300 community projects cut across of health, education, gender equality and lot more and we try to create a better world.
Been elected as the JCI Nigeria president its quite interesting to become number one member of an organization that have enough members across the entire countries but there is a lot of responsibilities. JCI Nigeria is 60 years in 2017, looking at 60 years of service in the country and trying to make impact, it put a lot of weight on me but actively what it does, it drives me more to create a positive change in the team for 2018, it is citizen in action, we should look beyond JCI Nigeria, we should look for good opportunities and the issues we face in our society, the challenges, and lots more.
In 2018 we are citizen in action, basically what we want to achieve is not looking towards Government, but rather looking toward other young people to create what is important, is to come out as a member of the youth organization. So we come together as young people to create this change not waiting for Government, I would not want to diverts my opinion to Government, but I would rather call to action to other young people for us to come and engage our self and not just to talk. We have four areas in the country we are looking at, this comes from the administrative angle, our local organization and we have conferences, we have the team that set as the national board, that help to run project across the country, so as for the national president what I do basically is to help drive the vision for the organization across the country and also see how well we are in to create a better community through our project and also coming from our local organization, not just major cities, but also across the countries.
JCI NIGERIA is in every institution across the country, the key thing is find that thing that is strong to you, that thing that drives you, when you come into JCI you would meet other young people that share that same opinion, same vision, same course. In that way there is a solution that are sustainable in our community, whatever it is as a youth that wants to join JCI, come in with that passion of yours, we would connect you with other group, that you work together. I had the opportunities to become a better person in life through different management courses, I have represented my company.
So I got all those training in JCI and traveling around the world Travelling to japan was good for me, you get to learn about the people and the culture being a young person, the opportunities to travel help you to understand a lot, I see how services define that part of the world; I see how people communicate. For me happiness is about yourself it is about self-love, you have a choice, I am happy that I can get more from life. In five years’ time young junior chamber international would be on my career, I would be active, I look forward for some new things that would come up. For my personal self, I look back into serving my people.
For every member of JCI INTERNATIONAL this is the CREED that drives us:
The JCI Creed:
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life,
That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations,
That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise,
That government should be of laws rather than of men,
That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality”
So alternatively, we are driving by this creed every single line from the fact
“That service to humanity is the best of life”.
